PNC Bank Complaint

PNC Bank Racial Profiling

I went to the PNC branch at 909 Bloomfield Avenue on Friday July 31, 2015 around 2pm, I wanted to cash my payroll check. I asked the teller what I needed to cash my check since I did not have an account with PNC. She then told me I would need my Drivers License and another form a identification such as a major credit card. I handed her the required documents and then gave her the check. She then stated that there might be a $10.00 fee and I said that would be fine. She then asked me how often did I get paid, I replied every two weeks, she asked me if I had any other bank accounts, I replied yes. She then got up and walked over to another teller Gulsen Taskoy who told her she could get Carol to approve my check. She went over to Carol and they started to whisper back and forth then Carol and the teller came over and asked me why the address on my check was not the same address that was on my drivers license. I then explained that my vehicle is registerd at the address therefore my license must reflect that. Carol then said that made no sense and wanted some other form of document that showed the address on the payroll check. I then left the bank went into my car came back in with my Macy's bill, my Bank of America Statement, and EZ pass statement that clearly showed my name and the address in question. my insurance card and registration that clearly showed that address on my license ,Now Gulsen Taskoy comes over and starts asking me where exactly is the company located, and why don't I know the address, is this my first time cashing a check from this company, and what was the phone number. I was insulted and disgusted by the treatment. Gulsen started talking to the teller and Carol they go back and forth and finally Gulsen said none of these documents make sense and for that reason we wont be cashing your check. I felt so disrepected ,I had been there for over 20 minutes while other customers where privey to what was going on with my situation, they made me feel like I was doing something wrong, I asked Gulsen what exactly does not match up I gave you everything you asked me for, which was a lot more that was required. She again said none of the documents provided were enough for them to cash my check. I then took the check along with all the documents left the bank then returned to ask for her name, she never gave me eye contact just slid her business card on the counter. I took it and left, I then googled another PNC bank which was at 423 Bloomfield Avenue, I walked in asked the same information gave the teller the two documents she asked for and had my check cashed within 5 minutes of my arrival. I then asked the teller Mellissa if my address not matching the check was not an issue she stated that she was able to verify the check and other information. She did not need to get others involved in the cashing of my check and I did not have to provide several other documents in order to prove who I was. The check in question was $1900.00 I am a union carpenter and I am a woman of color, I felt violated by Gulsen Taskoy your bank supervisor and I was put through extenuating circustances for no other reason then what I feel was the size of my check and the color of my skin. I was treated horribly and made to feel like a criminal to prove myself and even when I did I still was not serviced. The sad thing is they never questioned the check itself since they had already checked for it's validity, I on the other hand was not. I have cashed numerous checks at other banks and never , never have I ever had my license questioned, nor made to provide other documentation and made to feel like a criminal. I will defeinetley let my employers know about how I was treated and suggest that they take their business elsewhere. Belinda B
